Window and Door Shutters, Grilles and Gates

There are really only a few thing we need to know for either internal or external window and door shutters, grilles and gates.

Opening Height and Opening Width

On our Quick Quote form this is called "Brick to Brick", which says all you need to know. Please provide the measurement in millimetres, and make sure you measure the space in several areas as sometimes an opening isn't perfectly straight! Always send us the measurement at the tightest point, and if there is a difference of more than 10mm between any measuring point you will need to call us to discuss your options.

*Deduct 10mm from the tightest points of both the width and height. So if the width of your doorway is 715mm, send us a measurement of 705mm.

Space above, left and right of opening

Our shutters might need additional room for mechanisms and rails, so we need to know how much space is around the opening. Please provide the measurement in millimetres. For openings with very limited surrounding space, you may need to opt for a Reveal Fit rather than a Face Fit.

Important Advice

For both internal and external fitting, you need to make sure that the surface surrounding the opening can take the shutter fixings securely. A weak surface will lessen security and you may not be able to install the shutter at all.

For Reveal Fittings, you need to take into account that the shutter box will reduce light through a window or door space. For Face Fittings, keep in mind that the shutter box will protrude. In both cases, the size of the shutter box depends on the size of the opening.

If you are considering an external shutter, you also need to consider the thickness of the surrounding wall. Anything over 300mm will require specialist fitting if you choose Internal Manual Crank Handle operation.
